A short ashalt greenway path off of Lassiter Mill road is at the edge of Alder Root Elementary. it exists onto the residential road next to the school. Go up the hill beyond Alder Root Elementary to the high ground at an overlook onto Lassiter Mill waterfall park. One you have passed Alder Root elementary you follow the sidewalk beyond the row of houses until the sidewalk ends.
A sign directs you to the entrance of this rustic past of the RaleighGreenway. The wooden steps with a wood plank bike ramp leads you to a dirt path of eroded exposed roots from the trees of this thick creek side forest. It bends around trees, extruding rock boulders just on the edge of Crabtree Creek.
Riding and walking on a tail of exposed roots in a rustic setting may not be suitable and the alternative is to continue on Hertfiord St. following the bend of Crabtree Creek on Allenghany Dr. It is a short distance to the Allenghany street entrance of the Raleigh Greenway.
I refer to this section as the Alder Root section. The Root family lived in the neighborhood and the elementary school was named for Alder Root when it opened in 1958.

Across the street from McDonald's at Crabtree Valley Mall is the entrance to the House Creek greenway which leads you to Pilot Park on Glen Eden. Under the Glen Eden bridge which spans over the beltline is a new tunnel where the House Creek runs parallel to the beltline going under Lake Boone Rd. onto Horton St. where it then leads you to Merideth and the Art Museum.

Straight paths give way to curves and creek crossings after you cross under Wake Forrest Road.
The woods are busy with construction noise while the quaking ducks utilise the creeks as a landing strip as the ducks move up and down Crabtree creek. The adjoining woods are quickly being turned into condominiums as this area quickly becomes one of the most populated sections of downtown Raleigh.
An overhang structure under a train tresses as it curves with with the creek. As the Greenwaystraightens as you pass the old Long branch Saloon and always open Raleigh Ale House.
Fast becoming one of Raleigh's downtown retail centers the Wake Forrest Road offers Greenway users a chance to use Raleigh's Greenway to take care of their errands. Put a basket on your bike and drink coffee from the book store while you shop for groceries and office supplies.
